My choices define me! Main marzi!* How does it sound when these words come from a girl? When we live in free society, we have the right to choose. But it is not important to choose from the ‘bad,’ and, ‘unacceptable’ alternatives. Choosing among right alternatives makes sense. “My Choice” a short film featuring 99 women from all over India posing in front of camera with actress Deepika Padakon’s voice in the background is trying to tell the women about the choices they can make. She is trying to define herself and every other girl in a different perspective of freedom. My body, my mind, my choice To wear the clothes I like; even if my spirit roams naked My choice; to be size 0 or a size 15; they don’t have a size for my spirit, and never will To use cotton and silk to trap my soul is to believe that you can halt the expansion of the universe or capture sunlight in the palm of your hand Your mind is caged, let it free; my body is not, let it be My choice to marry or not to marry, to have sex before marriage, to have sex out of marriage, or to not have sex My choice to love a man or a woman or both Remember you are my choice; I am not your privilege The bindi on my forehead, the ring on my finger, adding your surname to mine, they are all ornaments and can be replaced; my love for you cannot, so treasure that My choice to come home when I want Don’t be upset if I come home at 4am; don’t be fooled if I come home at 6pm My choice to have your baby or not To pick you from 7 billion choices or not, so don’t get cocky My pleasure might be your pain; my songs your noise; my order your anarchy; your sins my virtues My choices are my fingerprints, they make me unique I am the tree of the forest; I am the snowflake not the snowfall; you are the snowflake Wake up; get out of the shit storm I choose to empathise or to be indifferent I choose to be different I am the universe, infinite in every direction This is my choice Are these the choices of a human or some lesser beings of low moral intellect??? If men define themselves this way they would be called chauvinists, egoistic, cheap and what not. Making bold statements and defining nudity as freedom does not make a woman hero. A real lady does not require all the unethical and immoral stuff to define her, not even this kind of empowerment is needed by the society. Women empowerment comes from women education and not with the stupid choices. There are women who live #mychoice life and of course it’s their choice, however, they are not respected at all. If the entire womenfolk adopt #mychoice kind of ideology what will the world look like? Will this world be a better place to live in??? The video may seem anti-men to a lot of people but I think its anti-women. Even women have the right to live with self-respect. My body, my mind, my choice To wear the clothes I like and even my spirit would be covered My choice to be a size 0 or a size 15 they don’t have a size of my spirit and never will Use respect and honour to cover my soul If your mind is caged let it free I have a lot of choices but I choose to be loyal and expect the same You are my choice like I am your choice The bindi on my forehead, the ring on my figure, adding your surname to mine, they are all ornaments and may be replaceable unlike love…but replacement won’t be easy for any of us So treasure my love My choice to come home when I want Don’t be upset if I come home at 4am I am answerable…the way you are Our choice to have a baby or not My pleasure may be your pain, my songs your noise, my order your anarchy, your sins my virtues, however, we will find a midway because you are my choice Our choices are like our fingerprints, they are unique I am a tree of the forest; I am the snowflake not the snowfall…so are you I choose to empathise or to be indifferent; I choose to be different but not a hypocrite I am the universe infinite in right directions This is my choice I am an ordinary girl with a heart and a soul, I make ordinary choices. I know my responsibilities and I stand for all of them. I am a daughter, a sister, a wife and a mother. I am not fighting for equality, why would I? I am not superior or inferior to them and I don’t want to be at par with them. I do not belong to a particular gender I belong to a class of humans. I do not require Bollywood celebrities to define my choices. I am different and so are my choices. * Main Marzi is a literal translation for My Choice in Kashmiri language.

WE are living in a world that is governed by rules and regulations for everything, created not by anyone else but by US only. The walls of these rules and regulations are so high that one wonders what to speak, think even sometimes what to feel. Everything seems possessed and in chaos. Amidst all this pandem
